Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Charoula Dontopoulos, Polarity Practitioner and Herbalist

Do you, or someone you know, feel irritable, and/or depressed? Abnormally tired? Have difficulty sleeping? Are your lymph nodes swollen or tender? Are you experiencing low grade fevers, recurring sore throats, gastrointestinal disturbances, or severe muscle pains? Do you feel disoriented, or “foggy”? You may be suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. We now know that CFS is an immune system disorder, probably related to mononucleosis, candida and/or fibromyalgia.

Roots of CFS may include:
Hereditary factors such as hypoglycemia or diabetes. Dietary and environmental causes such as an unbalanced diet, pesticides in the air and water, traumas and antibiotic abuse that creates a yeast imbalance. Stress is probably the single most important cause.

Current research has established that our nervous system is intricately connected with our immune system. A stressful lifestyle triggers abnormal hormonal responses which sooner or later lead to negative emotions, depression, and a suppressed immune system.

The good news: CFS responds well to holistic protocols. These include:
dietary and lifestyle changes, increased use of supplements, emotional support, exercise, and bodywork (especially energy-based bodywork such as Polarity therapy).

Polarity therapy is helpful in two ways:
1) Polarity can assist the body in cleansing toxins through specific protocols designed to balance the lymphatic system. Toxins, like dirty oil in your car’s engine, can prevent you from functioning at your full potential.
2) Polarity Therapy reduces stress and helps reverse the cycle of overstimulation and exhaustion which depletes our body’s defense mechanism.
