My Love Affair With Wheatgrass

In 1975 I had the incredible experience of studying in Boston with Dr. Ann Wigmore who had helped people for over 30 years get well from chronic disorders by using wheatgrass. Dr Wigmore was a pioneer, a researcher, and a teacher of natural living. I was impressed with her concept of healing and her focus on live foods vs. dead foods.

Dr. Wigmore’s claim to fame was her research on the effectiveness of chlorophyll; she and medical specialists reported hundreds of cases in which chlorophyll helped with deep infections, stimulated healing, assisted the body in detoxing heavy metals, accelerated connective tissue repair, and was successful in assisting cancer rehabilitation.

According to other researchers (besides Dr. Ann Wigmore) such as Dr. Bernard Jensen and G. P. Earp Thomas of Bloomfield Laboratories, chlorophyll aids in:

  1. Digestion

  2. Helps detoxify the liver

  3. Keeps the thyroid gland in balance

  4. Purifies the blood which enhances capillary function

  5. Decontaminates inorganic chemicals

  6. Builds up white blood cell count

In essence, the greatest gift of nature is chlorophyll AND the wheatgrass juice is the all time best source of chlorophyll !

I remember Dr. Ann telling us over and over again that wheatgrass juice is the best source of living chlorophyll available. When I was at her clinic, Hippocrates, in Boston, we fasted with wheatgrass, we used wheatgrass compresses, wheatgrass colonics, wheatgrass for mouth wash, wheatgrass for feet soaks and wheatgrass to flush our sinuses…. an obvious love affair with wheatgrass! It was at this time that I personally experienced the benefits of wheatgrass.

Here are a few more benefits of wheatgrass:

  • Science has proven that wheatgrass arrests growth and development of unfriendly bacteria.

  • Wheatgrass juice is a superior detoxification agent compared to carrot juice and other fruits and vegetables.

  • Wheatgrass juice acts as a detergent in the body and used as a body deodorant.

  • A small amount of wheatgrass in the human diet prevents tooth decay.

  • Wheatgrass juice held in the mouth for 5 minutes will eliminate toothaches; it pulls poisons from the gums.

  • Gargle with wheatgrass juice for a sore throat.

  • Drink wheatgrass juice for skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis.

  • Wheatgrass juice keeps the hair from graying.

  • Wheatgrass juice improves digestion.

  • Wheatgrass juice is high in enzymes.

  • Wheatgrass juice is an excellent skin cleanser and can be absorbed through the skin for nutrition.

  • Wheatgrass juice is great for constipation and keeping the bowels open. It is high in magnesium.

  • Wheatgrass juice reduces high blood pressure and enhances the capillaries.

In 1993 Dr. Ann Wigmore died in a fire when her Hippocrates Institute, an old building on Becon Hill, burned. Dr. Ann was 84 years old, healthy and still growing her organic wheatgrass and running her clinic before her death. She contributed her quality health to wheatgrass.

As timed passed I continued to use wheatgrass consistently as my primary naturopathic remedy. Every year I take a two to three week retreat to the new Hippocrates Institute in Florida for a wheatgrass reunion. I once again rekindle my love affair with wheatgrass.

I may be very biased, especially after such a long term relationship with wheatgrass but I can not emphasize enough that for quality health “Go Green”! Be consistent and have a daily green drink or two or three. As a Holistic Health Consultant my mantra is always, “when in doubt – use wheatgrass”.

What's in Your Medicine Cabinet?
Colloidal Silver, We Hope!

Chocoloate

WHAT DOES COLLOIDAL SILVER DO? Colloidal Silver is a powerful, natural antibiotic. It is the most usable form of disease, germ, VIRUS and fungal killers known. It has been found to be both a remedy and prevention for colds, flu, all infections and all fermentation due to any bacteria, fungus or virus, especially staph and strep, which are often found in diseased conditions. It has been reported to rapidly subdue inflammation and promote faster healing. The body needs Colloidal Silver to fight disease-causing organisms and to aid healing. Colloidal Silver provides a second immune system resulting in more energy, vitality, vigor, relaxation, faster healing and reduced bodily toxins. An artificial antibiotic kills, on an average, 6 different disease organisms, but colloidal Silver is known to kill over 650 diseases without any known harmful side effects or toxicity. Dr. Harry Margraf of St. Louis says, “Silver is the best all around germ-fighter we have”.

Essential Herbs

Spastic Colon / IBS

Essential Herbs

Inflammatory Bowel Symptom, or IBS, is a condition many suffer from, very typical of our highly stressed way of life.

Symptoms:

  • Gas & Gas Pains
  • Colon Spasms
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation

Probable Causes:

  • Stress
  • Acute Emotions
  • Poor Digestion
  • Liver Toxicity
  • Acidity
  • Bacterial and/or Virtal infestations

Herbs that Work:

All herbs in the Wiseheart Herbals tincture, DIGEST IT!!

  • Marshmallow Root
  • Licorice
  • Goldenseal
  • Fennel
  • Meadowsweet
  • Slippery Elm
  • Chamomile
  • Peppermint
  • Valerian
  • Catnip

Marshmallow Root Bark and Slippery Elm Bark:
great soothing mucilaginous plants which coat the stomach and the intestines, hydrating the colon and toning down the inflammation.

Licorice:
Anti-inflammatory due to its steroidal content, which helps break down the acids in both stomach and colon lining.

Goldenseal:
Anti-viral, anti-microbial, aiding with possible infestations.
Also astringent, helping with diarrhea.
Also a bitter, which stimulates digestion. The liver and gallbladder also respond to the bitter taste, and this often helps with constipation.

Meadowsweet:
Helps with pain, due to its salicylate content (aspirin)
Fennel and Peppermint: Help dissipate gas, and aid with digestion.

Chamomile:
Great digestive and soothing herb.

Valerian and Catnip:
Nervines and Relaxants, helping relieve acute emotions and stress.

How to take the tincture:

Take thirty to fourty drops with meals, three times a day, in half a glass of water.
(As with all tinctures, start with a small dose, like 10 drops, to ensure you are not allergic to any of the herbs, and build up to above dose.)
Continue throughout the crisis, and increase to four times a day, if necessary.
After the crisis has eased up, reduce to three times daily, then twice daily, and finally to just twenty drops once a day for another four or five days.

DIGEST IT!! contains very safe, and non invasive herbs, and would be a good tincture to take on a long term basis, except that it also contains Goldenseal which should not be taken for longer than ten days, even if the quantity of it in the tincture is minimal compared proportionately to the other herbs.

Heidi's Fact Finders

Crossroads: A Place Where Need and Resources Intersect

Heidi's Fact Finders

I just returned from a 2 ½ week service learning trip with Malone College, which involved a variety of experiences including volunteering at an orphanage in Yang Chun, China and working at Crossroads International in Hong Kong. Talk about getting out of your comfort zone!

One thing I can’t forget is the impact that Crossroads is having on individual lives. Crossroads Foundation is a non-profit organization that connects those in need with those that can help and they do it all for free.

• Manufacturers, businesses and individuals donate goods they would otherwise throw away (furniture, clothes, medical equipment, books, toys, household goods, computers etc.) and Crossroads gets items to people that desperately need them.

While I was there we processed part of a 20,000 piece men’s suit donation. These suits will go to men anywhere there is a need. Some might be completing training courses and need suits for interviews so that they can start a new life. I also saw:

• drawings from schoolchildren in Mongolia who finally had paper to write on for the first time in their lives

• letters from hospitals that were so grateful for gurneys because they had to carry patients hurting them even more

• and experienced an amazing Life X-perience Aids simulation

There were volunteers from 26 different nations at Crossroads while I was there.

• Some come for a week or a month.

• Others come for a year and stay for six.

• Some are single. Some come with young children.

• They all work for free and when I asked them how they deal with the financial challenges this brings, each one told me that once the decision was made to come, God provided the means and has continued to provide.

What a humbling lesson! I had the blessing to experience first-hand the truth of positive energy, prayer and the divine providence we are blessed with when we follow a call to serve. Source does indeed respond to our intent!
